About the Author

Saundra Carter, known to her clients as “The Math Lady”, has a passion for helping young people to achieve their math goals. She has been volunteering as a math tutor for over twenty years. In 2003, she founded Math 1 On 1, LLC a math tutoring company offering math tutoring services from arithmetic to calculus from grade schoolers to grandmothers.

Ms. Carter started tutoring as a ministry in her home church of Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1990. After graduating cum laude from Southern University A&M in 1991 with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics, she moved to Texas. While living in Dallas, Texas she became a member of the National Society of Black Engineers- Alumni Extension. The chapter tutored the students of the Dallas Independent School District for several years.

After almost 20 years since starting a tutoring ministry at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Saundra has found a common theme. Many of her students, both youth and adult lack the proper background for Math.

Saundra believes, as her father taught her, that a house with no foundation cannot stand. Arithmetic is the foundation, followed by Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Differential Equations, and beyond. If the Arithmetic foundation is not as it should be, subsequent courses will continue to become a source of frustration and fear.

***Remember: There is nothing to fear about math, but fear itself. ***
